I can’t write “tiny tomatoes” without thinking of that scene in Despicable Me where the villain “Vector” says , “Aw!! And look at this tiny toilet”.
And then it squirts him in the eye and he says “AHHH! CURSE YOU TINY TOILET!!”
Anyhoo, cook these up if you’re cold and tired and IN NO MOOD for raw tomatoes.
Put a sheet of parchment paper on a cookie sheet. Then throw your tomatoes on there and give a few glugs of olive oil.
Sprinkle as much salt as you want. Bake at 400° for 15 minutes.
Take them out of the oven, and throw a few glugs of Balsamic Vinegar on the mix. Bake at 400° for 5 more minutes. This will help the vinegar caramelize just a little.
These taste amazing. I eat them as a snack while I’m puttering around the house. The day I made these, my friend Lydia was here. We enjoyed snacking them after we finished recording the podcasts.
They don’t last long, so five right in.
Really, very literally, packed with flavor. And nutrients to keep you strong this winter.
If you want to add a little “somethin”, sprinkle with crumbled feta cheese. This variation would make a great addition to a Holiday dinner party. You could serve it as a side dish, or on your appetizer table.
I think a little finely-chopped rosemary leaves would be good as well.
Tell all your guests that these are called “tiny tomatoes” because no one really knows or cares what all the technical names for these tomatoes are. They are just tiny. And delicious.
And then pick up a tiny tomato and say, “AH!! Curse you tiny tomato!!” and see who picks up on your joke. Even if 19 out of 20 people think you’ve lost your mind – it’ll be worth it. Because you’ll have found ONE weirdo to add to your collection.
And that’s a win!!
We arrived in Germany on July 6, 2019! So far, I’m a mess!
Hi, I’m Shannon Vavich. I write recipes, produce cooking shows, run a podcast, and all others things food related. I am a reluctant world traveler, but I’m married to a US Marine, so I do my best to keep a good attitude and learn everywhere I go.
Mostly, I am a mama bear to my seven children. I work every day to build a FAMILY CULTURE of resiliency in the midst of our USMC life.
Shannon, you Always put a smile on my face. You aren’t afraid to show and share your design flaws, inside and out... makes me feel more human. You’re our home town girl and you’re real. I think the Flying Kitchen is Great. You’re still getting your sea legs. Quite a move from the southern USA, to Germany 🙀 You’re putting your family of 9 together again. I love your posts, your food and your family and your pets. I’m sure it was culture shock for them, too... Love You❤️❤️❤️
This lady is the best! I have been enjoying "The Flying Kitchen" for quite a while now! Always a good laugh and feel good moments...and so enjoy her whimsical cooking and share antics of her 7 children! Looking forward to her next ones when she gets back to USA! Safe and happy traveling all of You!!
Genuine, talented, and loving mother who has dedicated her life to raising children in a lifestyle and community focused on the defense of our country. While we are an extremely mobile and resilient community, our children deal with so very much. Shannon's show not only provides great food and recipes, she candidly shares those experiences and brings families together (sometimes across oceans and continents). This is our life - she just does it with grace and great lessons in food!
Shannon Vavich is a down to earth mother of 7, count 'em... 7 kids! She is a family first mom and I Love that!!! We've met the kids, the dog, the hamster... I haven't seen her Marine Corps Colonel Husband, but those 7 kids are lovingly raised by both parents. She shares family stories, parenting tips and encourages feedback and promotes positive discussion. I haven't even mentioned the her wonderful recipes... they are Simple, not loaded down with tons of ingredients, easy to prepare, she does it while dealing with her kids at times, talking about something unrelated to food prep and she doesn't miss a beat. I've made several of the recipes and they are yummy. She has taken us on a couple of field trips international style! I'm sure most of her fans haven't been to Japan, so I really appreciate the field trips. It's a wonderful "show" and I find myself totally looking forward to each and every one...!!!
A true hometown ROCK STAR ‼‼ She is a real as they come and has always been that way. Love watching her grow with her amazing husband also a hometown hero with all of his accomplishments. The true bonus in all this are her 7 blessings of joy. Keep up the wonderful things you do
