A delicious rustic bread studded with buttery roasted garlic, cheddar cheese and fresh chives. This bread is very easy to make and only requires about ten minutes of hands-on time. Rising periods and baking will take about 3 hours.
Measure flour into bowl, add salt and yeast and mix using the dough hook attachment.
Add the water while the dough hook is mixing. Let the mixer knead the dough for about three minutes.
Take bowl off of mixer and cover with a clean towel. Let rise for about two hours.
While the dough is rising, roast the garlic.
Roasting the Garlic
Using a sharp knife, cut the tips of the garlic bulb off.
Place bulb on sheet of tin foil. Drizzle olive oil over the garlic. Wrap the foil over the garlic and oil, place foil on a cookie sheet and bake in 350 oven for about 30 minutes.
Remove from oven and let cool. You should be able to pierce the garlic flesh with a knife. It should be as creamy as butter.
Making Your Loaf
After the dough has risen, flatten it out on a floured surface.
Squeeze the roasted garlic out of the paper-like skins of the garlic cloves.
Arrange the garlic cloves over the surface of the flattened bread. Reserve a few garlic cloves for the outside of the loaf.
Pour 2/3 cup of shredded cheddar cheese over the flattened bread. Sprinkle most of the fresh chives over the cheese.
Roll the bread into an oblong loaf and turn the edges under to seal the cheese in.
Plunge the reserved roasted garlic cloves into the surface of the oblong loaf. Sprinkle cheese and the rest of the chives over the loaf.
